There was a period in the fall of 1993 that could be described as the “calm before the storm.” First, we had made an offer on a house and were waiting for the actual closing date in November. Second, we were expecting Cameron’s arrival in about 6 months.
So, with our world about to drastically change, we took off to Newport, Rhode Island for a weekend together. Essentially a last romantic weekend together. Here are pictures from the trip, including the mansions and the Casino.
One lingering momento of the weekend is the concrete greyhound we purchased at junkyard/reclamation center in Newport (seen here with Cameron & Ellie). We dragged it back in the trunk of our Saturn and barely were able to lift it out and into our garage in Arlington. A month later the moving crew put it on the truck and off-loaded it to a spot beside our fireplace in Melrose, where it stayed until we moved it out to the backyard. Now it sits above Calvin and Jasper’s ashes.
